Ce magnifique puzzle représente une couverture du magazine Vintage Life de 1922, animée par 422 pièces aux formes irrégulières et fantaisistes. Fabriqué en contreplaqué de tilleul de 5 mm de haute qualité, il allie à la perfection art illustratif et divertissement. Plongez dans le charme du passé en reconstituant ce puzzle unique.
Nous avons choisi cette belle image car elle a été créée en 1922, à peu près la même année où Gerald Hayter a déclaré « Victory » comme nom de marque pour ses puzzles en bois.
C'est un puzzle emblématique pour nous et il présente de nombreuses fantaisies intéressantes d'objets qui étaient courants ou inventés à cette époque.
Ce ravissant puzzle présente un motif découpé art déco unique et contient environ 30 pièces fantaisistes, dont beaucoup sont en plusieurs parties !

Qu'est-ce qu'un Flapper ?
Personne ne sait comment le mot « flapper » est entré dans l’argot américain, mais son utilisation est apparue pour la première fois juste après la Première Guerre mondiale.
L'image classique de la garçonne est celle d'une jeune fêtarde élégante. Les garçonnes fumaient en public, buvaient de l'alcool, dansaient dans les clubs de jazz et pratiquaient une liberté sexuelle qui choquait la morale victorienne de leurs parents.
Les flappers étaient célèbres – ou tristement célèbres, selon votre point de vue – pour leurs tenues osées.
Elles portaient des robes à clapet à la mode, plus courtes, révélant les mollets et avec des décolletés plus bas, mais généralement pas moulantes : la silhouette droite et mince était préférée.
Les garçonnes portaient des talons hauts et troquaient leurs corsets au profit de soutiens-gorge et de lingerie. Elles appliquaient avec joie du fard à joues, du rouge à lèvres, du mascara et autres produits cosmétiques, et privilégiaient les coiffures plus courtes comme le carré.
Des créateurs comme Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli et Jean Patou ont dominé la mode garçonne. L'invention par Jean Patou des maillots de bain en maille et des vêtements de sport féminins, comme les tenues de tennis, a inspiré une silhouette plus libre et décontractée, tandis que les tricots de Chanel et Schiaparelli ont apporté des lignes épurées aux vêtements féminins. Les créations en biais de Madeleine Vionnet (coupées à contre-fil) ont mis en valeur les formes du corps féminin de manière plus naturelle.

À propos de l'artiste
Frank Xavier Leyendecker était américain. Il a travaillé avec son frère, JC, dans leur atelier, d'abord à Chicago, puis à New York et à New Rochelle, dans l'État de New York.
Il a étudié quelque temps à l'Académie Julian en France. Il était connu pour ses vitraux ainsi que pour ses illustrations pour des magazines et des publicités.
This puzzle took me quite awhile to complete but the finished image is incredible.

Big flaps up from me!
Loved this larger Flapper design from their original 250 piece one, which I did last year. Again it's lovely to actually see the majority of the cut pieces from the front, due to the minimalist design. Even more beautiful whimsies and a clever cut pattern. Loved it!

Lovely Fun Puzzle
This was the first Victory puzzle, from the "modern day" company, that I completed. I did many of the Vintage ones in my day, but the cut of the pieces in this puzzle were unlike any of those that I have done. The cut was different in a "monotonous" way that made the puzzle NOT monotonous, but rather very challenging. Especially when I got to the white boundary area I was challenged to approach the pieces in a way unlike I have ever experienced. The challenge was welcome and delightful. I can't wait to see what the next of their puzzles will offer. I would really have given it 4.5 stars but went for 4 since I can't do 4.5. The only thing I would improve is that some of the points on the black areas seemed to have "chipped," or something, that made the piece not black on its point. VERY slight visual distraction.

The big flapper - bigger and better
I don’t usually buy a second puzzle with an image already owned, but some one else decided that I would have this one even though I already had the original smaller version. For a long time, 250 pieces was as big as I went in wooden jigsaws, but I now see 400-600 as the ideal size, especially if you're a fairly speedy assembler and 250s sometimes seem too quick. But another advantage is simply having a bigger version of the picture. It’s easily as pleasing as the smaller version, with quite a few more whimsies, including a nicely done trumpet and sax. The big area of shades of white is quite tough, but the pieces make it clear which possible fits are true ones. For that reason, it might take longer than Home on the Range. There's also a mild challenge from the white of those pieces being quite close to the back's basswood colour. If that's an aspect that might put you off, try La Chablisienne, which I have in the smaller size and expected to be much easier than The Flapper. I decided the truth was "only slightly easier".
