We chose this beautiful image because it was created in 1922, the same year that Gerald Hayter declared 'Victory' as the brand name for his wooden puzzles - it's our signature puzzle and features many cool 'whimsies' that were popular or invented around that time.
This delightful puzzle features a unique art-deco cut pattern and comes in our beautiful, premium quality packaging - a very sturdy box with a magnetic closure. It will look fabulous on your bookshelf or coffee table!
No one knows how the word flapper entered American slang, but its usage first appeared just following World War I.
The classic image of a flapper is that of a stylish young party girl. Flappers smoked in public, drank alcohol, danced at jazz clubs and practiced sexual freedom that shocked the Victorian morality of their parents.
Flappers were famous—or infamous, depending on your viewpoint—for their rakish attire.
They donned fashionable flapper dresses of shorter, calf-revealing lengths and lower necklines, though not typically form-fitting: Straight and slim was the preferred silhouette.
Flappers wore high heel shoes and threw away their corsets in favor of bras and lingerie. They gleefully applied rouge, lipstick, mascara and other cosmetics, and favored shorter hairstyles like the bob.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Whimsy Piece?
From early last century, Victory designed puzzles that included shaped pieces designed to look like objects that complimented the art of the puzzle. The individual craftsmen added these pieces 'on a whim' as they were cutting individual puzzles. These whimsical, or 'whimsy' pieces as they became known, brought delight to the puzzle enthusiasts of the day.
How do I choose the right puzzle difficulty for me?
The 2nd image on our puzzle pages (above) shows the back of each puzzle - from that picture you should be able to assess the difficulty level - but we guarantee that, even though some may be challenging, they will definitely put a smile on your face!
How long does it take to complete a Victory Wooden Puzzle?
Because of our unique cutting patterns, our puzzles are much more difficult and pleasurable to piece together - a 250 piece wooden puzzle will take as long as it takes to piece together a 500 piece cardboard puzzle and a 500 piece wooden puzzle will often take longer than a 1,000 piece cardboard one.
How should I care for and store my wooden puzzles?
Our wooden puzzles are made to last! Made with 5mm Linden plywood, thay are very durable. Some of the whimsical shaped (object pieces) are a little more fragile so be sure to break up your puzzle with a gentle touch before storing it in our beautiful, magnetic closure boxes - please keep in a cool, dry place.
Why does my puzzle have a faint burnt wood scent?
We love this smell! - but it will dissiapte over time. It is caused because we use laser beams to cut our puzzles and this process vaporises a very fine cut line which creates this scent.

Favourite Victory so far
I have 5 Victory jigsaws so far, and this is one of the first two in the new 5mm plywood. There are some easy areas to get you started, but after that the original cutting pattern and the picture make it quite tricky. The whimsies are a delight, and one set of similar ones is not arranded as you might expect. If it’s still 40% off, don’t delay.

The Victory Jigsaw Puzzles brand was first established in the early 1920s by G.J. Hayter & Co. in Bournemouth, England. The wooden jigsaws were a familiar sight in British homes from the 1920s onwards. They were cut by hand from plywood and covered a wide range of subjects, including maps, famous landmarks, planes, ships, trains and well known paintings. Some, such as their best selling jigsaw of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953, had a patriotic theme; in fact the trademark ‘Victory’ had been chosen after the celebrations marking the end of the First World War. Victory puzzles were known to be a favourite with the Royal family.
